IT software has come along way since I started in this business over 20 years ago but some aspects of the way I train are tried, tested and there is still a big market for face to face, tutor lead training. Well, there was before the current situation with COVID and lockdowns. Most of the training has moved on-line and through eLearning.
Now, I can’t say that there will be no place for face to face training after the shutdowns but the IT Training world as adapted extremely well to the new world of on-line training.
Courses have been adapted, timescales changed and in our new world of Teams and Zoom have allowed us to still have that personal interaction with our clients. Delegates can be on the same course wherever they are in the country or indeed the world. Personally, I have had many situations where people working within the same company meet each other for the first time on my training course. How nice is that?
The other area that is expanding is eLearning. People training at their own pace, whenever it suits them. With this type of training, I still think that after training support is essential; a place where questions can be asked and answered is always useful however comprehensive the eLearning modules are.
Do I think training in the classroom has had its day? I hope not and I suspect most trainers feel exactly the same way. I love going into the classroom, meeting my delegates and building relationships with them but there is room for all types of training in the market and I think the diversity this strange world we live in at the moment has opened up training to develop in a very positive direction.
